Hi Team:
Think like we have a stand alone SQL server was running on VMware. what I m looking is what is the best DR plan.
1) thinking about implementing DR through "VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager"
2) Configuring SQL Server traditional HA's like log shipping or database mirroring
2** in step 2, think in one VM we have databases i don't want to create log-shipping or mirroring for all the databases on that SQL Server VM.
Hence i m looking on pros and cons of SRM's.
Please share me the docs if you have any. even i m also looking on google.
Thanks,
Satish Kumar

Hi All,
I have primary server(SQLServer 2008 R2) with 200 Database and 90 databases are configured in Log shipping(stand by).
We are planning for Indexing jobs on primary server.
Please some body advise us best practices to implement indexing jobs in primary server.
Thanks in advance
Hi,
We have configured log shipping in our production setup. Now we are planning to change the service account from local system on which SQL Server is running to to other domain account.
Pls let me know changing the service account would have any impact on Log Shipping.

Hi,
I'm planning on using a 2 node alwayson database availability group with a witness server. To start the replica sync I'll be using a backup on node 1 and doing a restore on node 2.
I'm planning on configuring the following weekly items into a maintenance plan:
dbcc checkdb
rebuild index
When setting up maintenance plans on two servers in an AAG, can I just create the maintenance plan on each node at a time or do I need to pay special attention to an AAG group?
Thanks

We have an AlwaysOn Availability Group with 5 replicas. It's been running for over a year, and has had no problems. It seems healthy, by every check we can devise. We have practiced graceful failovers multiple times, without any trouble.
However, when setting up a monitoring tool, the new tool could not see our WSFC details. After some digging in the tool, it turns out the tool relies on sys.dm_hadr_instance_node_map to build its map of our setup. And, this DMV returns no rows in our production environment.
We have a very similar (I would have said identical, but it can't be) setup in dev/test, and everything is working as expected. The monitoring tool works great in dev/test, and sys.dm_hadr_instance_node_map returns the expected results.
I'm looking for clues as to why the result set would be empty. What have I missed?
Thanks!
My SQL Server is hosted on a virtual machine (VMWare).
A backup strategy has been suggested whereby we backup the Virtual Machine every night.
Daily backups are all that is required.
Is the virtual machine backup a reliable way to backup SQL Server data?

I am installing SQL Serveer 2012 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Cluster.
I start the installation, and choose "New SQL Server Failover Cluster installation" Everything is going along fine until i get to the "Database Engine Configuration" Page. On the "Data Directories" tab, it automatically filled in the paths for the database file locations with:
\\?\Volume{... Volume GUID}\MSSQL11.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Data
But these have an error that says: "The path \\?\Volume{...guid...}\MSSQL..... is malformed or not absolute.
In my Windows Server Cluster, I have two devices in my storage folder. One is the Quorum drive, and the other is a shared Volume. The shared volume does not have a drive letter, and when I look at the Properties in the Cluster Manager, the volume is listed as "C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1". (Note: It had a drive letter untill i configured it as a Cluster Shared volume.
My question is, what is the correct value to enter for the data file paths?
Thanks
Matt

Anyone know how to solve this problem?

I have a SQL server cluster 2005. Due to the broken of SAN storage's controller and disks, one of my SharePoint content DB has corrupted and has been causing numerous error to the SharePoint. I have run the command "DBCC CHECKDB WITH NO_INFOMDGS" and the truncated output are as following:

The last DB backup creatred was about a month ago so doing DB resotre will be my last choice. Is it possible I can recover the DB without data loss using "DBCC CHECKDB ('WSS_Content', REPAIR_REBUILD)"? Any alternative method to acheive my goal?
Thank you.
Dear :
I am new beginner on sql server 2012 always on.
Our site had met an accident. It was the primary database server was unavailable and database was switch to
secondary server. Many users did not connect to database unless I switch database back to primary server.
So, it was strange that the service is alive when the database switch to another server. Why users did not connect to
database which on secondary server ? How can I check that issue?
Hi,
I have configured log shipping and it restores all the log files upto a particular time after which it throws error and not in consistent sate. I tried deleting and again configuring log shipping couple of times but no success. Can any one tell me
how to prevent it as I have already configured log shipping from another server to same destination server and it is working fine for more than 1 year? The new configuration is only throwing errors in restoration job.
Thanks,
Preetha
Hi all,
We are looking at a future deployment of this technology in SQL 2012 for Production. Would sit on a 2-site WSFC.
The question has come up: is it feasible to create a 'single-node' copy of such a deployment, based on a single-node WSFC at the first site. We would have SQL 2012 instances installed on this one server, still have the AAG in place but have no other instance to host secondary replicas?
Reason being to get to a 'Pre-Prod' build that simulates as close as possible to Prod but is not a full WSFC and does not have full AAG on top.
From reading, my thinking is you need 1 or more genuine secondary replicas in the AAG by definition. Can anyone confirm or comment?
Many thanks

Hi Experts,
How to upgrade an Active & Active sql cluster?
Is there any difference in upgrade for sql 2005 Active-Active cluster and sql 2008 R2 Active - Active cluster?
Thanks in advance.
Team,
We have a development cluster which is configured on Windows Server 2012. Recently we had an issue where the cluster failover happened momentarily and the roles were interchanged wrt to AlwaysON. During this process users lost connectivity and upon further investigation, the users were orphaned on the other node and had to manually permission the users. Now that we have fixed the permission issue, please let me know whether this happens everytime whenever the cluster failover happens?
Also would like to seek your help in any user sync script which I can incorporate for the issue to sync up the logins.
SQL Version: 11.0.3000
Any help on this is much appreciated.
Regards,
Sharath
What are the failover scenarios/situations in which the failover happens when the Databases are configured with ALways-On?
In our situation windows failover cluster server node 1 fails over to node 2 but the databases are still pointing to node 1.
thanks
Hi,
We have a 2 node Actice/Active Cluster as described here:
SqlServer Instance 1 = MSSQLSERVER
SqlServer Instance 2 = Instance2
As we know when we want to connect to the second instance, our web.config files in Application Servers must be changed to something likeIP\Instance2 or DNS\Instance2 which is too difficult for us to do.
The question is that is there any other way to connect to the Active/Active cluster?
