We have a 3 TB database where we have recently moved documents over 2 years old into separate (read only) filegroups. Our goal is to keep one good full backup both offsite and onsite indefinitely then only do differential & PRIMARY filegroup backups regularly. We would also do more full backups, but those would only be done occassionally possibly bi-annually.
Anyhow, we are now two days into the full backup and about halfway done and I'm realizing that the database is still in SIMPLE recovery model and the Filegroups have not been marked as Read Only. The 'read only' filegroups truly have not been modified. Do I have to start the backup over again making sure the database is in FULL recovery and the filegroups are properly marked as 'read only'? OR can I make the changes in the middle of the backup OR even after?
