Two single node cluster/AG with Distributed Availability group

Hello,

I have a requirement to implement SQL server DR solution between two data center, without needing HA solution within same DC. Current solution is using log shipping to sync Primary Data center with DR Data center.

With SQL server 2017 AG/DAG, Is it possible to create Single node cluster with SQL server AG on each DC and connect them with Distributed availability group? This way, I can get data sync up to DR site in somewhat real time and don't need to use log shipping anymore.

I understand that with Single node cluster, there is no High availability, but i am ok with that. My assumption is that if that single node goes down in Primary data center, I can manually failover to DR data center.

Does anyone see any issue with this architecture? Do you think we can implement this safely in Production environment?

Thanks in advance.

Raj
