disaster recovery on loss of a data drive, SQL 2008 R2

I am looking for some advice on how to deal with loss of a drive containing user  databases. There is some storage work upcoming that has a low risk of drive failure, but I want to know how to deal with it. Worst case scenario is loss of a drive containing user databases, but a new  drive could be restored empty with the same drive letter. There will be backups available.

From the management studio, if the drive containing user databases fails, how does SQL react to this? When the SQL server starts:

-does it just mark the missing databases as down?

-Does it allow the admin to right click on a user database name, and restore from backups?

There will be around 30 databases.
